Wisconsin Fast Plants - getting all the seeds out

Today we are taking all the seeds out of the seed pods. I had 25 seeds. I think light is a very important factor for growing these plants. I didn't have anything close to what my partner did. She had 100 some. I think that my experiment was a failure.

Seed Pods

This week our seed pods need to dry up so we can pick out all the seeds. So we need to take them off the watering system to have them dry up. I don't have that many seed pods. Only 3 some people in my class have like 20.

Wisconsin Fast Plants Dying

My plants are getting bigger seed pods. They were not very big on Monday. Our plants are at the stage of dying. Once all the plants have no flowers and all have seed pods we will take them off the watering system. Then they will dry up and we can take all the seeds out of the seed pods.

Our plants are starting to die!  They are starting to grow seed pods. The seed pods have the seeds in them.

Wisonsion Fast Plants Day-20

Today my plants finally flowered! I am so happy. I think it took longer  to flower because it wasn't getting the 24 hours of good light. I was getting kinda sad when my plants weren't  flowering and everyone else were!

Light

My plants wont blossom flowers! I think its because of the light that im testing. One other person in my class is testing light and his isn't doing very well either. Now after his wasn't growing it got me thinking tt maybe its the light. At first i thought i did something wrong like it wasn't getting enough water or i put the seed to deep or to shallow. But now i think its the light.

My plants don't have any flowers yet! My partners plants have flowers and a couple other people in my class do. I have 21 leaves and my partner has 17. Her plant is 16cm mine is 12cm. I don't think that putting it by the window is helping much because my plants arent very tall.

March Madness with Books

We had a tournament with books. We each picked out a book we thought would be the best. I picked Wonder.  I chose this book because it has a lesson and the lesson is to never judge a person by the way they look. This is how the tournament works we picked names out of a hat and that who went against. We wrote argument writings. We gave reasons why we thought this book should be the champion and why this book is the best. We filled out a rubric. So like 2 people from either class would go up in the front of the room read theirs and then we would evaluate them from 1-5 in each area. After that Mr. Hummel added the scores. At the end of the day he would tell us who wins and they would move on to the next round. I had a lot of fun doing this and I hope we can do it next year in 6th grade.

Wisconsin Fast Plants Day-15

As you can see my partners has grown a lot since yesterday. Her flower buds have really gotten big. Hers have gotten really tall! Mine is 8cm and hers is 12cm.  I have 17 leaves and she only has 15. I think is weird that hers is taller and has less leaves than i do.

Wisconsin Fast Plants Day-14

STILL today i have 14 leaves!  I don't know  why this is happening! My plants aren't very tall either! I think this is happening because of me putting it by the window.

Wisconsin Fast Plants Day-13

My partners plant is growing flowers buds! Mine is starting to get flowers buds  too but not as good as Nicole's. Her leaves are really big too. I think maybe putting it by the window is helping a little. My plant is not as tall as my partners, hers is 7 cm and mine is 5 cm.  My plant doesn't have as much flower buds as my partners. I have 17 leaves and my partner has 16 leaves.

 My plants are going crazy! We added more soil to mine because, tipping sideways. I think mine is tipping sideways because of the sun. My partners is doing great! We had to raise our lighting system because the plants are growing so much.

Our plants our growing like WEEDS!!!!  My plants are starting ti get flowers! My partners have really big leaves and are getting flowers. Hers are 4 cm tall.and mine are 3 cm.  I accidentally left my plant by the window all weekend!

My plant wont stop improving! I am very impressed how my plant is doing since its not getting 24 hours of fluorescent light everyday. My leaves are getting better and bigger and darker.

Wisconion Fast Plants Day- 8

My plants are making some progress! I was wondering if my plant would grow since it wasn't under the fluorescent light for 24 hours a day. My plant is 3 cm and my partners is 3.5 cm. I am very exited to see how my plant will turn out.

Wisconsin Fast Plants Day-5

My plants are growing better they are getting darker leaves and more leaves. I think maybe putting them by the window for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon is helping. I hope it is anyway. My partners plants are growing a little bit better than mine but, mine are coming along. 

Wisconsin Fast Plants Day-4

We are doing something different in science. We are doing Wisconsin Fast Plants. We just planted them last Friday and they are already growing. As you can see there is a control person and experimental person.We are working with partners on this. I am the experimental and my partner is the control. The control does everything your suppose to do like they do put in 2  seeds in every cell and they put in 3 fertilizer. They control has the perfect growing conditions. They have 24 hours of light and the same temp everyday. The experimental on the other hand is way different they get to change something like they can put 6 fertilizer instead of 3. But you cant change 2 things. We cant change more than 1 because we want to see what we do helps it or makes it worst. I changed light so I'm  going to put it by the window for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. On the weekends we will put it under the fluorescent light. I think the plants don't need  24 hours of fluorescent light. The controls leaves are way healthy than mine. Hers are really dark and mine are really yellow. My partner has 2 plants in each cell and she has more leaves than mine.  I only has 1 plant in a cell but i only have 2 plants growing. I think maybe mine will start growing better after I put it by the window for 2 hours.
 

National Fairy Tale Day

National Fairy Tale Day was February 26th. My whole class made there own Fairy Tales. We got pick how we were going to publish them. I chose to publish mine on Composer Pro its an app. Composer Pro is a app where you can publish basically an eBook. I was really fun putting my story on there. Composer Pro is hard to get use too at first but, then I got messing around with it and figured some stuff out. Mr. Roberts came down to help me and couple other students add pictures to your story. My teacher and I also played around with this app and figured out how too add sound and turn the pages. My story turned out to be really cool with the sound. My friends interviewed me a we also put that video on the last page of my story. I REALLY enjoyed writing my Fairy Tale.

Iowa Assessments Test

This week and next week we our taking IA Assessments. They are test that show our growth and if w our learning what our teachers teach us. It also shows if the teachers are doing their job. We took the Reading part 1 on Thursday. We will take another test today. Some of the questions were easy and some of them were tricky. The test are very important. My teacher told us how to breathe if we got stressed or we didn't know how do a question. Breathe in through your nose for 4 and out through mouth for 8. I hope everyone did good on their test.

Penny War

We our doing a Penny War at school. The Penny War is to raise money for the Iowa Childrens Hospital. Each classroom has a bucket. Everyday we bring in pennies to put in our bucket. Or we can bring in nickels,dimes,quarters, and dollars to put in other peoples buckets. All the pennies in our bucket are  positive and all the silver coins and dollars count negative points. So you want to have the most pennies in your bucket. My class right now is in last place but, we our raising the most money. We our in 13th place. All the money gets donated even though the all the silver coins count negative.
Our whole school so far has raised $564 that was on wensday  it ends on Friday.

Christmas

Christmas was good !! How was yours ? I had a lot of fun:) I got some nice gifts:) What are some of your nice gifts? I got a waffle chair, nike duffle bag, couple pairs of miss me jeans,clothes,toms,under armour headbands,ipod case,I-home,headphones,and other little stuff! U had a great christmas spending time with my family and friends:) Thanks to everone who made this christmas a good one:)
